Anomalous Intimacy

This is the beauty of photography, it makes things more real than real.

For this series, I am investigating how technology shapes our vision; and how vision has continued to evolve through time. This has been a focus of interest for many years now.

The photographed life-sized sculptures were made in collaboration with artist Shahzad Ali. They were made specially to be photographed and were dismantled later.

The sculptures possess life and stories of their own. With the medium of photography, I have captured their essence through the imitation of documentation. The male figure appears to be from the Mughal period while the female figure appears to be Western attire. The series of photographs remind the viewer of the ongoing love-hate relationship between the East and the West.

This work is also rooted in the mockery of miniature art instead of its imitation.
